England's lead was closing on the 300 mark on the fourth morning as India's bowlers struggled to create any sort of pressure on the two batsmen.



The immaculate Strauss is looking to become the first Englishman to hit two centuries in a single Test in Asia.

England were 200-3 after 50 minutes of play on Sunday in the first Test.

Matt Prior and Owais Shah helped England overcome a setback in the first over of the run-chase and laid a platform from which to push towards India's total of 292. Prior was approaching a half-century and Shah had just been dismissed for 58 after a second-wicket partnership of 96. The asking-rate, however, had climbed to over seven an over and England needed to play perfect cricket in the remaining overs to avoid going 2-0 down in the series.

Chasing a daunting target England were jolted early by the run out of Ian Bell. He pushed the ball towards cover, took on India's swiftest fielder - Suresh Raina - but was caught short by his full-length dive and direct hit. India had two other chances to dismiss Prior, on 19 and 28, but Rohit Sharma failed to hit the stumps at the bowlers' end, and Yuvraj failed to latch on to a difficult chance at point.

An unbeaten century by Shivnarine Chanderpaul could not save West Indies from a 24-run defeat in the second one-day international against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the loss of the series.

The veteran left-hander struck 107 not out as the Windies attempted to overhaul their opponents' 232 but they came up short as they could not score fast enough in the closing overs, eventually being bowled out with seven balls remaining.

Misbah-ul-Haq's half-century had helped the 'home' side to their competitive total after they had been reduced to 87 for four.

Although he was easily outscored by Chanderpaul, the rest of the Caribbean team failed to make a contribution.

The loss of openers Chris Gayle and Sewnarine Chattergoon, both without scoring, left Windies in deep trouble at 14 for two in the fifth over.

However, Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan turned things around with a stand of 92 in 23 overs.

Sarwan was eventually trapped lbw by Shahid Afridi for 45, having hit four fours in his 64-ball stay at the crease.

From that point it was all about Chanderpaul as of the remaining seven batsmen only Nikita Miller (12) made double figures.

The left-hander hit six fours in 149 balls but as his partners failed to make an impact the pressure - and run rate - began to increase.

Burnley stun Chelsea in shoot-out

Championship side Burnley stunned Premier League leaders Chelsea after a dramatic penalty shoot-out at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup fourth round.
Burnley keeper Brian Jensen was the hero after he dived full-stretch to divert Jon Mikel Obi's decisive penalty to safety.
Didier Drogba had given Chelsea a first-half lead with a sumptuous finish from a Frank Lampard pass.
But a spirited second-half from Burnley saw Ade Akinbiyi sweep in an equaliser.



Chelsea made six changes to the side that defeated Blackburn 2-0 at the weekend, with striker Drogba recalled to the starting line-up after overcoming his recent injury problems.
But it was Burnley who started brightly, and forced Chelsea onto the counter-attack in the early stages, with Chris Eagles and Joey Gudjonsson looking the most likely to break the Blues' rearguard.
The home side soon managed to exert their influence on the game and a foul on Drogba gave Alex the chance to unleash a piledriver 25 yards out from goal.
The Brazilian defender scuffed his shot but Wayne Bridge came close with the follow-up, sending the ball just wide of goalkeeper Jensen's post.

Akhtar ruled out of first ODI

Shoaib Akhtar has been ruled out of the first one-dayer against West Indies in Abu Dhabi due to a calf injury.
"He pulled his left calf muscle during yesterday's training session and will be rested for today's match," Pakistan Cricket Board's media manager Raza Rashid said.
Yawar Saeed, the team's manager, maintained that it wasn't a serious blow and there was still hope that Shoaib could take part at some point in the series. "We are not treating it as an injury, it's just a calf muscle pull and we will reassess his injury on Wednesday and then on Thursday before deciding when he can take the field," Saeed told AFP.



Coach Intikhab Alam is clear that only a 100 percent Akhtar will play because we have an important series against India in two months time and we will not risk any further injury for Akhtar," said Saeed.
Shoaib last played an ODI a year ago in Gwalior on the tour of India. He was selected for the three-match ODI series in Abu Dhabi after impressing in the domestic Pentangular Cup, picking up nine wickets in two games for Federal Areas.
On Tuesday, West Indies captain Chris Gayle had talked up Shoaib as Pakistan's main threat. "He is always the key factor," he said. "He is a wicket-taking bowler in a strong Pakistan pace attack."

Pakistan batsman Yousuf joins ICL

Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has joined the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League (ICL), in a move that could jeopardise his international future.



He is now unlikely to play in the three one-dayers against the West Indies, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Monday.

"His wife told us on the telephone that he has left for India today to play in the ICL," PCB director of operations Zakir Khan said.

"But we will wait for facts and figures before taking any action against him."

The PCB has a strict policy of banning all players who have joined the ICL - a Twenty20 league which is bankrolled by India's largest media group, Zee television, and not recognised by world cricket's governing body, the International Cricket Council.

Yousuf had been set to join the ICL when it was set up in 2007 after he was left out of the Pakistan squad for the World Twenty20 tournament.

But after talks with former PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, he agreed to forego the move and remain eligible for Pakistan.
